Course Requirements:
  • Paper 1 (4 pp; due to your TA at the beginning of lecture on 2 Feb): 15%
  • Midterm Exam (9 Feb, in lecture): 20%
  • Paper 2 (4 pp; due to your TA at the beginning of lecture on 2 Mar): 15%
  • Discussion Sections: 20%
  • Quizzes in lecture (random--about 1/week): 5%
  • Final Exam (24 Mar, 8-11 am): 25%

This course introduces the creation of modern America, exploring the social, economic, political, cultural, and international developments of the last century (since WW I). It also examines the process of "making history," looking at how individual and public memory of this history shapes lives now.
