Writing 1 concentrates on the craft of composing and revising your ideas with course work that includes bridging the transition from college preparatory writing to college writing. Class time will be spent on strategies of arguments, discovery and presentation of persuasive ideas and evidence through a process of drafting and revising. Completion of three revised essays will be critiqued and graded for style, clarity and measured progress in your writing. Completionwith a grade of C or better meets Subject A requirement.

This course is the first of a one-year sequence of writing courses designed especially for students in the College of Engineering. In this segment of the sequence, we will discuss writing as a tool for thinking and communication. We will read and analyze a range of technical discourses, write formal, research-based documents, conduct collaborative research, and increase our understanding of technical writing formats. Through classroom exercises and outside assignments, we will further develop our ability to sustain a coherent argument and use revision for clarity and conciseness.
